Molly enters carrying Kaitlin.

Thomas:

Who’s that?

Molly:

New kid. (Puts down Kaitlin)

Isabelle:

Hey new kid, have a name?

Kaitlin:

It’s Kaitlin.

Riley:

Hi Kaitlin.

(The following lines are spoken cutting each other off)

Grayson:

That’s Riley…

Riley:

And that’s Grayson…

Grayson:

She’s my…

Riley:

Sister and he’s my…

Grayson:

Brother.

Molly:

Twins

Thomas:

They’re always finishing each others sentences like that. I’m Thomas.

Ashlyn:

And I’m Ahslyn.

Kaitlin:

Hi.

Ashlyn:

This is Isabelle…a?

Kaitlin:

Isabella?

Isabelle: Well, no one really knows if it’s Isabelle or Isabella. When Ms. Jeanette found me here there was a letter but no one could really read it. So I’m Isabelle. Or Isabella. Or Isabelle. Or Isabella. Or…

Thomas:

Just call her Izzy.

Kaitlin:

I like Izzy.

Thomas:

Over there’s the boys. Ben, Lincoln and Alex.

(Ben, Lincoln and Alex blow a raspberry in their direction)

Molly:

They’re all mean.

Thomas:

Takes one to know one Molly.

Molly:

You wanna say that again Thomas…

(Ms. Jeanette is heard coming in)

Ms. Jeanette:

(Offstage) Kaitlin? (Spots her) Well little one, I see you already found your way around. Did you meet everyone yet?

Kaitlin:

Most of ‘em, I guess. Well, not them Ms. Jeanette. (Indicates Adriana, Wills, Macy & Emily)

Ms. Jeanette:

Adriana, Wills, Child 1 & Child 2 come here. Children, this is Kaitlin. (Adriana, Macy & Emily mumble hello. Wills nods.)

Kaitlin:

Why doesn’t she talk?

Ms. Jeanette:

Wills hasn’t spoken since she got here. She likes to keep us guessing, don’t you Wills?

(Wills shrugs and walks away)

Ms. Jeanette:

Now that we’ve all met Kaitlin, it’s time for bed.

Cast & Choir:

Yeah!

Kaitlin:

Why are you all so excited to go to bed?

Ashlyn:

It’s Christmas tomorrow!

Riley:

We’re all…

Grayson:

Excited.

Kaitlin:

I’ve never had a Christmas before.

(Following lines are spoken on top of each other as children start to make their way to their beds. Ms. Jeanette begins helping kids pull out blankets and such.)

Molly:

Are you kidding me?

Isabelle:

Really?

Thomas:

You’ve never gotten presents?

Kaitlin:

Never.

Isabelle:

Rough.

Ms. Jeanette:

More then presents, we are also celebrating a birthday. Let’s not forget that.

Kaitlin:

(Looks at Molly) Is it your birthday?

Molly:

No. It’s Jesus’s birthday.

Ashlyn:

Ms. Jeanette bakes a cake and we all sing (begins to sing) Happy Birthday to you…

Kaitlin:

Like a party?

Ms. Jeanette:

Like a party. And Ashlyn has reminded me I need to check on that cake. I’ll be back soon to tuck you all in and say your prayers.

(Exit Ms. Jeanette)

Ashlyn:

I can’t wait to see what presents I get.

Grayson:

I can’t wait for…

Riley:

Cake.

Riley & Grayson:

Yum.

Thomas:

What do you want Ashlyn?

Ashlyn:

(Far off dreamy look. Thomas pulls her back to reality.) Huh?

Thomas:

What do you want for Christmas, the presents?

Ashlyn:

(Suddenly shy) I don’t know.

Molly:

You don’t know? Come on Ashlyn. If you could find anything inside your shiny box, what would you want it to be?

Ashlyn:

A family.

Kaitlin:

Do those come in boxes?

Ashlyn:

I want a Mom. And a Dad.

Thomas:

(Far away look) A brother.

Isabelle:

What’s wrong with living right here? Forever? What’s so special about having a family?

Ashlyn:

What’s so special? Izzy, having a family means having a name. It means being someone. It means belonging to someone. It means someone helping me find my talents and giving me piano lessons. It means walking to school with sisters and…and someone caring whether I come back. It means having somebody to love.

(Cue Music – Somebody to Love)

Somebody to Love

Ashlyn:

Can

All:

Anybody find me somebody to love?

Ashlyn:

Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you’re doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can’t get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Choir:

Take a look at yourself

In the mirror

And cry yeah

Oooh

Just can’t get no relief

Somebody

Somebody

Anybody find me

Ashlyn:
I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache in my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own –
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord – somebody – somebody
Can anybody find me – somebody to love?

Choir:

She works hard

At the end of the day

Hard

All on my own

Down knees praise the Lord

Anybody find me

Ashlyn:
Everyday – I try and I try and I try –
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I’m goin’ crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah – yeah yeah yeah

Choir:

She works hard

Everyday

Try and I try and I try

Ooh, Ooh

Ah

He’s got nobody left to believe

Yeah – yeah, yeah, yeah.

Instrumental Music Break

Ashlyn:

Woah!

Somebody, ooh somebody,

Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Choir:

Somebody, Somebody,

Anybody find me

Can anybody find me somebody to love

Ashlyn:

Got no feel, I got no rhythm

I just keep loosing my beat

I’m O.K. I’m alright,

I aint gonna face no defeat

I just gotta get out of this prison cell,

One day I’m gonna be free, Lord!

Choir:

Just keep losing, losing

She’s alright, she’s alright

Yeah

Ooh, prison cell

One day I’m gonna be free, Lord!

Choir:
Find me somebody to love (x8)

Love, Love

Find me somebody (x2)

Somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody, somebody,

Somebody find me somebody to love.

Ashlyn:

Can anybody find me somebody to love.

Choir:

SCENE 2

Kaitlin:

(Goes to Ashlyn) I’ll help you Ashlyn. I’ll help you find somebody.

Ashlyn:

(Hugs Kaitlin) Thanks Kaitlin.

Isabelle:

I still don’t understand what’s so bad with this place.

Molly:

Nothing’s wrong with it Izzy.

Isabelle:

Then why leave? We’re loved here. We’re taken care of. They feed us don’t they?

Grayson:

Yeah.

Isabelle:

They tuck us in and say prayers with us, don’t they?

Riley:

Yeah.

Isabelle:

Then what’s the big deal.

Thomas:

It sure isn’t an orphanage like in Annie.

Isabelle:

Exactly Thomas.

Kaitlin:

Who’s Annie? Did she used to be a kid here?

Molly:

Annie’s a play about an orphan.

Ashlyn:

I hate that word.

Kaitlin:

What word?

Ashlyn:

Orphan.

Isabelle:

Well, that’s what we are.

Molly:

The orphanage Annie lived in was awful. They sure didn’t have a Ms. Jeanette.

Grayson:

They had a Ms. Hannigan who…

Riley:

Never really took care of them.

Thomas:

She made them work all day, scrubbing the floors and cleaning.

Isabelle:

The hard-knock life kid.

(Cue Music – Hard Knock Life)

Hard Knock Life

Molly, Ashlyn, Isabelle, Riley, Thomas, Grayson:

It’s the hard-knock life for us!

It’s the hard-knock life for us!

‘Stead a treated we get tricked,

‘Stead a kisses we get kicked,

It’s the hard-knock life!

All:

Got no folks to speak of, so,

It’s the hard-knock row we hoe.

Cotton blankets ‘stead-a wool,

Empty bellies ‘stead-a full,

It’s the hard-knock life!

Isabelle:

Don’t it feel like the wind is always howlin’?

Molly:

Don’t it seem like there’s never any light?

Riley:

Once a day don’t you want to throw the towel in?

Thomas, Grayson:

It’s easier than puttin’ up a fight.

Ashlyn:

No one’s there when your dreams at night creepy.

Isabelle:

No one cares if you grow, or if you shrink,

Riley:

No one dries when your eyes get wet and weepy.

Molly, Ashlyn, Isabelle, Riley, Thomas, Grayson:

From the cryin’ you would think this place would sink?

Oh!

All:

Empty belly life

Rotten smelly life

Full of sorrow life

No tomorrow life

Isabelle:

Santa Clause we never see

Molly:

Santa Clause, what’s that?

Riley:

Who’s he?

All:

No one cares for you a smidge

When you’re in an orphanage

It’s the hard-knock life

Spoken

Kaitlin:

It’s not like that here is it?

Ashlyn:

No way. Ms. Jeanette takes care of us.

Grayson:

She gives us…

Riley:

Food. She gives us…

Grayson:

Clothes.

Thomas:

We still got chores to do but nothing like Annie and her friends.

Isabelle:

See it aint so bad here. A family? Who needs a family.

Ashlyn:

I’d like a family.

Molly:

I bet Annie and the other orphans wanted a family too.

Kaitlin:

Poor Annie.

All:

It’s the hard-knock life for us!

No one cares for you a smidge

When you’re in an orphanage

It’s the hard-knock life

It’s the hard-knock life

It’s the hard-knock life

SCENE 3

Kaitlin:

Oh my goodness. I’m so glad it isn’t like that here.

Thomas:

I know what I’d like to find inside my present.

Molly:

A pretty new doll?

Kaitlin:

You collect dolls?

Thomas:

Cut it out Molly.

Ashlyn:

What do you want to find Thomas?

Thomas:

A new paint brush.

Kaitlin:

You paint?

Grayson:

He’s a great…

Riley:

Painter. Really you should show…

Grayson:

Her your work Thomas.

Kaitlin:

Would you Thomas?

Thomas:

Well, yeah, okay.

(Thomas opens his rooms doors and behind is painted a scene of a man holding the reigns to a horse with a little girl on top. The horse is not painted yet but a small outline is visible.)

Kaitlin:

Woah Thomas! You did this?

Thomas:

Yep.

Kaitlin:

By yourself?

Thomas:

Yeah.

Kaitlin:

Who taught you to do this?

Thomas:

No one I guess. I just…do it. It takes me away.

Ashlyn:

To where?

Thomas:

Wherever I want to go. With this brush I can draw myself into any place. I can escape this place. Escape the loneliness.

Kaitlin:

Are you lonely a lot?

Thomas:

It’s not too bad. And besides I can draw myself happy. I can draw an elephant and I’m taken to the zoo. I can draw a pool and I find myself swimming.

Ashlyn:

Can you draw me into a picture sometime?

Thomas:

Sure.

(Cue Music – Pure Imagination)

Choir:

Me too. Can you please?

Molly:

That’s crazy Thomas. You can’t swim in paper.

Thomas:

I can swim in my imagination, Molly. If you weren’t so determined to be unhappy all the time, you could do it too.

Kaitlin:

Will you show me Thomas?

PURE IMAGINATION

Adrianna:

Come with me
And you’ll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you’ll see
Into your imagination

We’ll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we’ll see
Will defy
Explanation

All:
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it

Instrumental Break

Adrianna:
There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

All:
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world?
There’s nothing to it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You’ll be free
If you truly
Wish to be

SCENE 4

Grayson:

That was…

Riley:

Incredible.

Kaitlin:

It was Thomas. I want to be a painter now too.

Ashlyn:

You do?

Kaitlin:

Yeah! But first I have to learn how to draw.

(Choir giggles)

Izzy:

(Indicating Grayson and Riley) What about you two?

Ashlyn:

Yeah Riley, what do you want to find under the tree?

(Following lines are said between just the two of them and are spoken quickly)

Riley:

Should we tell them?

Grayson:

It’s up to you.

Riley:

I don’t know Grayson, what if they laugh.

Grayson:

They wouldn’t would they?

Riley:

They might…

Molly:

Hello? Remember us over here? Waiting.

Riley:

We want a

Grayson:

Job.

Izzy:

A job? That’s ridiculous. We’re just kids.

Riley:

(To Grayson) Go ahead.

Grayson:

We are just kids but if we had jobs then we wouldn’t have to worry anymore.

Riley:

Worry about someone taking care of us. We could take care of ourselves. Buy our own…

Grayson:

Clothes and make sure we have beds to…

Riley:

Sleep in.

Izzy:

A job. Ridiculous.

Molly:

It’s not so ridiculous Izzy.

Ashlyn:

I think it’s great.

Thomas:

(To Kaitlin) Riley and Grayson were in a really bad place before here. They kept trying to escape.

Ashlyn:

There were bad people there who were supposed to take care of them but didn’t.

Kaitlin:

Like Annie.

Molly:

Like Annie.

Thomas:

What kind of job would you pick Ashlyn.

Ashlyn:

I think I’d be a ballerina. Like the one you painted. (To Grayson & Riley) What about you guys?

Riley:

We’re going to go to…

Grayson:

New York and be…

Riley:

Famous.

Izzy:

Give me a break.

Molly:

Shut it Izzy.

(Cue Music – New York, New York)

Izzy:

Whatever.

New York / New York

Riley:

Start spreading the news, we’re leaving today

Grayson:
We want to be a part of it

Grayson & Riley:
New York, New York

Grayson:
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - New York, New York

Riley:
I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn’t sleep

Grayson:
And find I’m king of the hill - top of the heap

Riley:
These little town blues, are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it - in old New York

Riley & Grayson:
If we can make it there, we’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you - NewYork, New York

Instrumental

All:
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps
And find I’m A number one, top of the list,
King of the hill
A number one

Grayson & Choir:
These little town blues,

Riley & Choir:
Are melting away

Grayson & Choir:
I’m gonna make a brand new start of it

Riley & Choir:
In old New York

Grayson & Choir:
And if we can make it there

Riley & Choir:
We can make it anywhere

All:
It’s up to you, New York, New York. New York

SCENE 5

(Ms. Jeanette enters)

Ms. Jeanette:
Well, what is going on here? I thought you were getting ready for bed.

Thomas:
We were.

Kaitlin:
We were talking about what we want our presents to be.

Ms. Jeanette:
Oh?

Ashlyn:
Thomas wants a new paint brush.

Ms. Jeanette:
He is quite the artist. And you Ashlyn?

(Ashlyn becomes quiet)

Molly:
She wants a family.

Ms. Jeanette:
(Goes and places her arms around Ashlyn.) Each night Ashlyn, I pray that God finds the perfect family for you to join.

Ashlyn:
I pray too Ms. Jeanette. So I know it’s going to happen.

Isabelle:
I still don’t think it’s so bad here.

Ms. Jeanette:
Well I should hope it isn’t bad here. I do love you all.

Riley:
We love you…

Grayson:
Too Ms. Jeanette.

Choir:
Yeah, we all do. We love you.

Ms. Jeanette:
Good. Now to bed. Little heads must find their way to pillows while covers are tucked up tight.

(Molly and Riley start helping the little kids into their beds.)

Kaitlin:
(Sighs)

Ms. Jeanette:
Are you alright Kaitlin? Are you nervous about your first night here?

Kaitlin:
Oh no. I like it here. I really do.

Ashlyn:
Hey Kaitlin, you never told us what you want for Christmas. (Yawns)

Kaitlin:
Oh that’s easy.

(Cue Music – In My Room)

Kaitlin
 I want my own room.

In My Room

Kaitlin:

There's a world where I can go and tell my secrets to
In my room, (Choir Echo: in my room) in my room (Choir Echo: in my room)
In this world I lock out all my worries and my fears
In my room, (Choir Echo: in my room)  in my room(Choir Echo: in my room)

All:
Do my dreaming and my scheming
Lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday

Kaitlin:
Now it's dark and I'm alone but I won't be afraid
In my room (Choir Echo: in my room) in my room (Choir Echo: in my room)

All:
In my room, in my room
In my room

SCENE 6

Ms. Jeanette:
(Whispering) That would be wonderful Kaitlin.

Kaitlin:
(Very sleep) Why are you here Ms. Jeanette?

Ms. Jeanette:
To tuck you in silly girl.

Kaitlin:
I mean here. At the group home.

Ms. Jeanette:
God laid you on my heart Kaitlin. He told me there were children who didn’t know love or faith. He told me He wanted me to find these little ones and hold them in my arms the way He holds them in His. To kiss away their fears and hug out all the sadness they’ve seen. So I came here.

Kaitlin:
(Almost asleep) To find me?

Ms. Jeanette:
To find you.

(Cue Music – If I Could)

Kaitlin:
Thank you Ms. Jeanette. For doing what He told you…(asleep)

If I Could

Ms. Jeanette:
(During this first section others bring in presents and Ms. Jeanette shows them where to go.)

If I could, I’d protect you
From the sadness in your eyes
Give you courage in a world of compromise
Yes, I would

If I could, I would teach you
All the things I’ve never learned
And I’d help you cross the bridges that I’ve burned
Yes, I would

If I could, I would try to shield
Your innocence from time
But this part of life I give you isn’t mine
I’ve watched you grow, so I could let you go

If I could, I would help you
Make it through the hungry years
But I know that I can never cry your tears
But I would, if I could

Spoken
Izzy:

(Begins tossing and turning)

Ms. Jeanette:

Shhh, darling. I’m here, it’s alright.

Izzy:

(Moaning in sleep)

Ms. Jeanette:

It’s okay. Sleep little one. You’re safe here, Izzy. It’s okay.

Izzy:

(Talking in sleep) Don’t go.

Ms. Jeanette:

I won’t. No one is leaving you darling. I’m here. I’m right here. Always.

Singing

Ms. Jeanette
If I knew, I’d have tried to change the world

You’ve been brought to
And there isn’t very much that I could do
But I would, if I could

SCENE 7

(Ms. Jeanette starts to leave the room but Molly who hasn’t been sleeping calls her back)

Molly:
Ms. Jeanette.

Ms. Jeanette:
Molly, why are you still up? I thought you were asleep.

Molly:
I was listening to you. (Slowly) Why you?

Ms. Jeanette:
What do you mean?

Molly:
Why do you care so much about us?

Ms. Jeanette:
God placed you here (touches her heart). He calls us all to care for the orphans…

Ashlyn:
I hate that word.

Ms. Jeanette:
Are you up too?

Thomas:
Me too.

Grayson:
Me…

Riley:
Too…

Ms. Jeanette:
Oh children, you need your sleep.

Kaitlin:
(Waking up) What’s going on?

Ms. Jeanette:
Oh dear. You are all waking up.

Molly:
He really does that? Calls you to care for us? For us orphans.

Ashlyn:
Ugh. (Covers face with pillow)

Thomas:
Why do you hate that word so much?
Ashlyn:
Because. I’m not a no-one. I’m a someone. People point at me and whisper “orphan” like it’s..it’s some bad disease. And sometimes kids walk on the other side of the street like my “orphan” might jump off and get them.

Izzy:
Shhhh!!! I’m trying to sleep here!

Ms. Jeanette:
I’m so sorry that some people hurt you, Ashlyn. Orphan should never be used as a word to hurt. Your identity my child is not found in a word. But found in who you are.

Ashlyn:
Who am I?

Ms. Jeanette:
You are God’s child. An orphan here on earth perhaps, but not an orphan in His kingdom. There you have a family.

Kaitlin:
God’s our big Father.

Thomas:
Our big Papa.

Ms. Jeanette:
Exactly.

Molly:
But…

(Isabelle has become fully awake now and spots the presents.)

Isabelle:
Hey! Presents!

(The children are out of bed and running for presents. They begin to pass them out excitedly to each other.)

Thomas:
Here you go Molly.

(Molly takes the present but doesn’t open it. Others begin to pull out their gifts.)

Thomas:
Alright! A new brush.

Ashlyn:
A doll house. It’s perfect!

Kaitlin:
Aren’t you going to open yours Molly?

Molly:
What I want isn’t in this box.

Kaitlin:
How do you know unless you open it?

Ms. Jeanette:
What were you wishing for?

Molly:
Hope.

Ms. Jeanette:
Hope?

Molly:
Hope. (Stands up and begins to look out)

Kaitlin:
(Looking inside her box.) Nope. I don’t see any hope in here.

Molly:
You’re not going to find it in a box Kaitlin.

Kaitlin:
Where will I find it.

Molly:
It’s out there. I know it.

Ms. Jeanette:
Molly?

Molly:
I want to tell them Ms. Jeanette. I want to tell all the people out there about us. (Building up excitement) I want them to know we’re here. I want them to know that Ashlyn needs a family. You’ll make a good daughter Ashlyn, I know you will.

Ashlyn:
Thanks Molly.

Molly:
And they need to know about Thomas. They need to see his talent. He has a gift Ms. Jeanette that can’t be left here. Someone needs to come, come and give him a future.

Ms. Jeanette:
Then you’ll tell them Molly.

Molly:
But I’m just a kid. Who will listen to me?

Ms. Jeanette:
Who will listen? I’m listening. I am listening. You have a story to tell and they will hear you.

Molly:
What if it’s too much for just me, it’s a big world.

Ms. Jeanette:
Then we’ll do it together.

Thomas:
I want a chance, I want a chance at a future, Molly.

Molly:
And you should have one. (Grayson and Riley come up to Molly) You all should. You two can be a little annoying finishing each others sentences, but you still deserve a chance. A chance to wake up and not be afraid, a chance to know that you’ll have food and never go without.

(Cue Music – Will You Be There)

Molly:
Kaitlin needs her own room and Izzy…Izzy needs a Mom. Izzy, you deserve a Mom to sit with you and brush your hair. To look at you in the mirror and tell you how beautiful you are.

Isabelle:
I’d like a Mom.

Molly:
Me too.

Will You Be There

Ashlyn:

Hold me
Like the River Jordan
I will then say to thee
You are my friend

Thomas:
Carry me
Like you are my brother

Kaitlin:
Love me like a mother

Ashlyn, Thomas, Kaitlin, Isabelle:
Will you be there?

Molly:
Weary

Isabelle:
Tell me will you hold me

Riley:
When wrong, will you scold me

Grayson:
When lost will you find me?

Molly:
God told me
That I should be faithful
And walk when not able

Ms. Jeanette:
And fight till the end

Molly:
But I’m only human

Spoken

Ms. Jeanette:

Only human but a child of a mighty King and with Him beside you nothing is impossible, Molly.

Molly:

I don’t know, I just feel so heavy. Like I’m carrying all this weight on my shoulders.

Kaitlin:

Will you tell the world I’m here and I’m waiting?

Riley:

Us too. We’re waiting too.

Ashlyn:

My family is out there…they just don’t know about me yet.

Isabelle:

(Slips hand into Molly’s) I’ll help you tell them.

Molly:

Okay.

Singing
Molly & Isabelle:
Seems like the world’s
Got a role for me
I’m so confused
Will you show to me
You’ll be there for me

Cast:
And care enough to bear me

Choir: (no solo vocals)
Hold me
Lay your head lowly
Softly then boldly
Carry me there

Lead me
Love me and feed me
Kiss me and free me
I will feel blessed

(Molly begins some small freestyling)
Carry
Carry me boldly
Lift me up slowly
Carry me there
Save me
Heal me and bathe me
Softly you say to me
I will be there

Lift me
Lift me up slowly
Carry me boldly
Show me you care

Hold me
Lay your head lowly
Softly then boldly
Carry me there

Need Me
Love me and feed me
Kiss me and free me
I will feel blessed

SCENE 8

Ms. Jeanette:
Looks like you found your present.

Molly:
I did?

Ms. Jeanette:
God’s calling for you, Molly. To be a voice for orphans. To bring them hope.

Kaitlin:
Hope for Christmas.

Molly:
Yeah, I guess I did get what I want for Christmas.

Thomas:
That’s way better then a paint brush.

Ashlyn:
Or a dollhouse.

Molly:
What do I do now?

Ms. Jeanette:
You start praying. You start talking to God, asking Him to show you what’s next, how you’re going to impact the world.

Molly:
I’m just a kid Ms. Jeanette. How much can I really do?

Ms. Jeanette:
Children, don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are too small for God to use you. Even the smallest of hands can be used to make miracles. I want to pray right now for you Molly and for this new journey that God’s calling you on. God, thank you for bringing this light of hope into my life. She is already changing lives right here, but God, I know that you are calling her to a bigger mission, to bring names and faces to the word ‘orphan’. God I ask that you give her strength and courage and let her feel you next to her every step of the way. Amen.

All:
Amen.

Molly:
(Whispering) Thank you.

(Cue Music – Because it’s Christmas part 1)

Kaitlin:
Come on Molly. I want to see what you got in your box.

Isabelle:
Yeah, come on Molly.

(Kids open present and start playing with toys. General fun is being had.)

Because It’s Christmas Part 1

Jeanette:
Tonight the stars shine for the children
And light the way for dreams to fly
Tonight our love comes wrapped in ribbons
The world is right and hopes are high
And from a dark and frosted window
A child appears to search the sky
Because it’s Christmas

Because it’s Christmas

(Clock strikes midnight)

SCENE 9

Kaitlin:

It’s here! It’s here!

Thomas:

What’s here, Kaitlin?

Kaitlin:

Jesus’s birthday. It’s here!

Ashlyn:

We should celebrate.
(Music begins a slow fade)

Kids:

Cake!

Ms. Jeanette:

At Midnight? I don’t think so children.

Riley:

We could…

Grayson:

Sing!

Ashlyn:

Yeah! (Singing)  Joy to the world…

All:

…the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

(Kaitlin yawns)

Thomas:

Tired?

Kaitlin:

A little.

Ashlyn:

Me too.

(Cue Music – Because it’s Christmas part 1)

Ms. Jeanette:

To bed my little ones. Again.

(All children run to get to their beds holding their new toys.)

Molly:

Merry Christmas Ms. Jeanette.

Ms. Jeanette:

Merry Christmas Molly.

(Tucking kids in.

Because It’s Christmas Part 2

Jeanette:
Tonight belongs to all the children
Tonight their joy rings through the air
And so we send our tender blessings
To all the children everywhere
To see the smiles and hear the laughter
A time to give a time to share

All:

Because it’s Christmas
For now and forever

For all of the children and for the children in us all
